The algorithm isn't the boss of you
- unapologetic social media use and taking back your power
We've been noticing something on social media, these past few months particularly, and we're not okay with it. Here are a few examples of what we've seen and heard:
“I can’t take a break from posting because the algorithms will stop liking me.”
“I’m sorry everyone that I haven’t posted in a while, I’ve had a lot going on.”
“I haven’t posted 14 times this week, my business is going to suffer. I’m so tired but I HAVE TO post something.”
Sound familiar?
Yep. This is a pretty typical internal monologue many of us experience when scrolling through our social media feed. And, we’re experiencing this rollercoaster of thoughts and feelings multiple times a day. It’s a lot - trying so hard to work out how to meet our own expectations, the expectations of our audience, and the expectations of an algorithm that no one really understands. It’s no wonder that social media is taking such a big toll on our physical and emotional health.
To a degree, it is controlling our lives and our mental space. And, anytime an external force is controlling your mind - it’s going to have an impact on your mental health and your sense of self.
So, it’s time we had an honest conversation about social media and unapologetically taking your power back.
