If your experience is anything like mine, you are in for a treat.

If your experience is anything like mine, you are in for a treat. As a recent university graduate, it can be a challenge to avoid the societal paradigms of the ‘next big thing’ to tick off your list. The societal expectation of jumping straight into a full-time job after studying can feel like a heavy weight on your shoulders.

For most people, this is an exciting time to embark on the journey of career and dream fulfilment. For others, stepping into the workforce can seem daunting, claustrophobic even. Especially girls coming straight out of university feeling enormous pressure to jump straight into corporate life. Being part of the corporate world for nearly two years has already shown me that the 9-5 grind is a tough one to crack.

Despite a degree and passions behind me, I still find it ridiculous we're expected to know what we want to do with our careers and stick to it until retirement.

Something about this lifestyle I find a little off balance. I'm agitated most days and have a burning desire to move in different directions that seem way too good not to explore.

If you have chosen the path of jumping into your career straight after studying, (firstly, I am so proud of you, and secondly, you’ll need some hot tips, STAT!). The corporate world is like a battlefield. Although there are more opportunities for women in the workplace, there are the male-dominated CEOs and outdated procedures you'll more than likely experience, so be careful – these can sometimes dull your sparkle.

There will be times when you find yourself having to prove your worth to those in power, but why should you prove yourself to people who run companies based on archaic business models that no longer seem successful?

Discovering yourself and what you stand for is key in life, and knowing your core values will catapult you ahead of the pack.

I encourage you to make your own noise and stand up for what inspires you. You can be loud in ways that others would never have imagined. When we understand what is at our core, we are inclined to make decisions more aligned with who we are and the goals we actually want to achieve.

Once on the journey of self-discovery and understanding your true purpose, the universe will begin to surprise you in ways once deemed unimaginable.

So this is your sign - try new things, follow your dreams, and live in the only moment that exists, the present and the now.

Steering away from the societal norm is a movement within itself, and I'm so excited to enjoy living my life based on this philosophy.
